Chicago's Puerto Rican Story
Chicago's Puerto Rican Story is an 80 minute documentary that paints an inspiring portrait of the Puerto Rican experience in Chicago. The film which aired on PBS probes the early years of migration, settlement, and struggle.

In the early 1940's and 50's many Puerto Ricans migrated to various major cities throughout the United States. The film recollects the events and influences that shaped their political awareness and activism in their respective communities. And it highlights the many contributions made by generations of Puerto Ricans who called Chicago home.

Chicago's Puerto Rican Story covers the early history of Puerto Rico. The film covers the Spanish American War of 1898, highlights the early formation of a commonwealth government in Puerto Rico and touches on the Foraker Act of 1900, the Jones Act of 1917 and spans until the present day.  Buy it now!

College Tour 2010

The Producers of NFP will travel to various colleges and universities across the country during Hispanic Heritage Month. NFP plans to work with partnering institutions to host a special film screening of "Chicago's Puerto Rican Story" or "Urban Poet" at each participating institution. A Q&A forum with the filmmakers will follow each screening. The independent film, Urban Poet, caused a major buzz in Chicago and was highly recommended by film critic Roger Ebert during the 19th Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival. Chicago's Puerto Rican Story which debuted on PBS is the first film ever made about any Latino group in Chicago.
